Janet (Kristin Scott Thomas) hosts a party to celebrate her new promotion. In her elegant home in London the guests show up one after another to congratulate for her success but it is evident that things won't go as smoothly as expected.
Janet's husband (Timothy Spall) wants to make a declaration, the lesbian couple (Cherry Jones, Emily Mortimer) have just received the news that they expect triple twins, the bestie (Patricia Clarkson) wants a divorce, and that's not all: a handsome invitee (Cillian Murphy) is hiding a revolver under his jacket. As the group runs out of red wine everybody feels more and more uncomfortable playing the role demanded by the circumstances and the dialogue oriented chamber drama is proceeding towards a grotesquely tragic end.
