Helen (Glenn Close) is still a very attractive woman, and she is about to get married. Her two adult sons (Owen Wilson, Ed Helms) are also invited to the party, but they are definitely not prepared for the surprise that their mother has up her sleeve...
Before the wedding most brides tend to become a bit uncontrollable, for example Helen has a sudden attack of honestness and admits to her two sons that the man they honour as their deceased father had never existed because in reality she just don't know who the father is. Kyle and Peter are properly shocked by this revelation, finding out that their mother has been lying to them for so many years, trying to protect them from the truth. As soon as they are capable to act again, they decide they will find their true father and that journey will be the adventure of their lives. Though visiting all the three possible father figures may not lead them closer to the truth after all...
