The nominees of World Press Photo 2018

Nominees of the 61st World Press Photo are revealed, 6 pictures are competing for the honorable title 'World Press Photo of the Year'. Winners will be announced on the evening of Thursday 12 April at the World Press Photo Awards Show in Amsterdam.
A jury of 42 photographers (of whom 15 persons have won the title 'World Press Photo of the Year' in the past) will decide the fate of the 312 nominees. The categories are unchanged: the pictures can focus on Contemporary Issues, Environment, General News, Long-Term Projects, Nature, People, Sports and Spot News. Among the competing photos we can see moments of war, the beauty of nature, or the culture of humankind, but all of them will undoubtedly have a big influence on the spectators. Managing director Lars Boering have said that the competition aims at connecting the people with the important things which really matter nowadays.
