You Were Never Really Here
Director Lynn Ramsay tackles again a rather serious subject in her latest film, following the fate of Joe, a traumatized man who has been through the hell of war while also being ill-treated by his father when a child.
Joe (played by Joaquin Phoenix who received an award in Cannes for this role) makes a living by rescuing missing young girls from the claws of sex-trade. His latest mission is to save a senator's daughter, but he finds himself involved in dangerous business for which he must pay the price. 'You Were Never Really Here' is not a tight action-thriller though, it is a slow, almost lyrical film about a suffering soul's quest for redemption, and the corrupt world which surrounds us.
