High Life
A man (Robert Pattinson) and a baby struggle for survival in space: French director Claire Denis has created an eerie, haunting science-fiction drama about the existential questions of humankind.
Monte and the small Willow are survivors. The man was part of a numerous crew on a spaceship. A crew made of criminals. They were sentenced to this deathly journey to redeem themselves. Their goal is to approach a black hole, find a way to harvest its energy and bring it back to Earth. Bad news is, that the black hole is too far away, so the members of the crew have to reproduce themselves in order to create a second generation who may finally reach their destination. The baby Willow is a result of this cruel breeding process. When an unpredicted accident happens, Monte must find a way to survive the unsurvivable and keep hope together with his daughter. The French director's English language debut is not an easily digestible film, nor an easily lovable one, but it is surely a unique cinema experience.
