The Oscars 2020: 'Parasite' makes a splash

Last night, at the 92nd Academy Awards Gala 'Parasite' made Oscars history as the film became the 'Best International Feature Film' and also the 'Best Motion Picture of the Year'. Overall it triumphed in four categories, while 'The Irishman' for example, nominated in 10 categories, didn't win a single award during the ceremony.
Though everybody expected 'Parasite' to lead the international category, the fact that it has also won the most important award and thus became the Best Motion Picture of the year was a total surprise and a historical moment. The film was also awarded for Best Original Screenplay and Best Achievement in Directing. Director Bong Joon-Ho declaired that he would 'drink until next morning' in order to recover from the shock. The South-Korean film triumphed over such acclaimed productions as 'Once Upon a Hollywood', 'Marriage Story', 'Joker' and '1917'.

The awards for the best performances in a leading role were less unexpected: Joaquin Phoenix and Renée Zellweger were awarded for their outstanding performances as Joker and Judy Garland. As for the supporting roles, Brad Pitt received his first Oscar for his role in 'Once Upon a Hollywood' while Laura Dern was awarded for her performance in 'Marriage Story'.

The Best Animated Feature Film is 'Toy Story 4' this year. Elton John and Bernie Taupin were awarded for their Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures ('Rocketman'). Internationally beloved 'Little Women' received an Oscar for Best Achievement in Costume Design, while director Taika Waititi was awarded for the best adapted screenplay ('Jojo Rabbit').
