Death Wish
Chicago is a dangerous place, armed violence is a phenomenon one must get used to quickly while living there. Dr. Paul Kersey has always worked hard as an experienced trauma surgeon, he dedicated his life to saving that of others'. After an attack on his family, Paul embarks on his own mission for justice.
He can't remain neutral any more after his wife and daughter are attacked in their home. The police turns out to be unable to control the situation so Paul decides to act on his own. That of course excites the curiosity of the media, the whole town is trying to decide whether Paul is right or whether he becomes a cruel killer himself. Paul gets always closer to the culprits and their meeting is finally inevitable. The original movie was made in 1974 starring Charles Bronson, and four other films were made in the subsequent years. This 21st century version wants to surpass the previous films with the most violent scenes, the movie is rated R for a good reason, it requires a strong stomach to watch it. But 'Death Wish' is not a dumb film after all, it tells us about the sense of loss, of failure, and how the media influences the opinion of the public. Other thought provoking subjects like the non-restrictive gun-laws appear in the movie. One cannot decide if Bruce Willis was a good choice or not, this kind of character is very well known by him as he personified many similar ones, and he looks rather stoical playing the leading role in Death Wish.
