161 rooms, 40 stairways and 467 doors: the most haunted house of the world stands seven stories tall and serves as a bizarre monument to the madness of Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester fortune. She did not build all that for herself though, but for the troubled ghosts of the people who were killed by the Winchester repeating rifle.
The story continues to excite people ever since, it's featuring constantly the program of documentary channels and inspired Hollywood several times. The superstitious woman bought a house in 1884 and went on constructing it until her death, because she thought that the only way to break the curse which hit the Winchesters as a punishment is to give shelter to the souls of all the people who were killed by the rifle Winchester, which was designed by her husband. The house is a tourist attraction ever since and it is said to be haunted, though there are some skeptic people who say it's just the wind. Anyway, the Spierig brothers ('Daybreakers', 'Jigsaw', 'Predestination') took up the story and tuned it up with special effects and Helen Mirren. The result is frightening, it's up to everybody's subjective taste to decide how much.
