Based on the novel of Ian McEwan and starring super talented Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, this typically British film is about frustration due to the lack of sexual education in the '50s, and also about the fragile and elusive nature of love.
A young couple is about to spend their honeymoon on Chesil Beach, but due to their inexperience the wedding night results in a huge and embarrassing fiasco. Can they let go of their past and overcome the taboos of society? Can they communicate with each other in order to solve the problem? Would their love resist to this painful situation? In spite of the excellent actors, in the end the film definitely yields to sentimentalism and navel-gazing. One thing is sure: it is not the most suitable film for Valentine's Day if you are planning a romantic cinema experience.
