A man is stranded alone in the Arctic. His plane has crashed some time ago. The icy environment is merciless, but he is bent on surviving. And he is definitely not bad at it.
He catches fish, sends distress calls, carves a giant S.O.S. sign and even prepares a map. His established daily routine is broken by the arrival of a helicopter, which is supposed to save him. But a sudden snowstorm makes the helicopter to crash, and our protagonist is left with a survivor, an unconscious Russian woman. Time becomes precious, and Overgård must decide whether to remain in the relative safety of his makeshift camp or to embark on a deadly trek through the unknown. If he remains, the woman surely dies. If he embarks on a dangerous journey, he might find the outpost and be safe together with the wounded co-pilot. Mads Mikkelsen delivers a gripping performance in this laconic and poignant adventure-drama, the first feature film of Brazilian director Joe Penna.
