Filmmakers often think that the background story of a grand opus (let it be a book, a movie or a piece of music) can be as exciting as the opus itself. Well, sometimes they are right, but sometimes they are wrong.
I'm afraid that in this case they were rather mistaken, as the story of 'Curtiz' is hardly intriguing enough to keep the spectators pumped-up for one and a half hours, though Casablanca fans will undoubtedly find the director's way of evoking the great classic enjoyable enough. The plot is set in 1942: America prepares to enter World War 2, while Hungarian film director Michael Curtiz (Kertész Mihály) grapples with political intervention and a dysfunctional relationship with his estranged daughter. The film presents us the troubled production of 'Casablanca', and though it does have some delightful moments and lovable characters, it remains too 'skinny' dramatically so (unlikely the classic of Curtiz) it's not likely to leave a lasting memory in the audience.
